It’s official - we’re better off hiring baby boomers than gen y-ers!
The speech was a little tongue in cheek but it does beg the question whether we have the option to ignore the gen y demographic. I know they’re annoying, have no loyalty or sense of duty but I’m afraid they’re what we’ve got!
Now here’s a business that exists in a traditional industry, yet is managing to find novel solutions to gain and maintain viability amidst the threat of new competitors.
The guys from HB, publishers of Idealog, media are publishing Inspire magazine, a travel mag. Now what you ask is innovative about that?
Well Inspire is sponsored by House of Travel but, unlike the other agency advertising, managed to retain it’s integrity in terms of editorial content without becoming yet another advertorial.
HB (I assume) realising that there is no money to be made in traditional publications such as this, innovated. I guess HOT pays a significant amount of the cost of publishing the magazine, in return for advertising space. HB gets to sell space to other non-competing businesses and also gets to sell magazines via subs and on the news stand. HOT gets to give the mag free to it’s best customers - adding value to their brand.
Kind of win/win/win.
Vincent this is the sort of thing that helps us off the Road to Nowhere!
Up to date results (well if you call up till 2005 up to date) show that we’ve been increasing rather than decreasing CO2 output.
While Aunty Helen might wax poetic about NZ becoming carbon neutral it is interesting (and obvious) to note that at the same time as economic activity has been increasing, CO2 outputs also have.
It reminds me of some statistics during the consent hearing for the Kate Valley Landfill in North Canterbury. At the hearing we heard that refuse volume growth correlates almost exactly with economic activity growth - an obvious correlation that seems to have passed the politicos by.
What would be really interesting would be to here Clark et al explain how we will have economic growth while at the same time reducing carbon emissions.
Rod emailed me today inviting me to visit Xero HQ and see some of the downtrack development stuff to allay my concerns regarding the Xero product offering. This is an offer I’ll surely take up ASAP.
Rod’s email also got me thinking that some people out there may be misconstruing my intentions with the posts and my attitude towards Xero. Just to clarify;
I love the fact that Xero is a NZ company and I have oodles of respect for RD et al
I love the Xero functionality as it stand - what it currently does, it does well
I am sure that Xero has development interations to address the concerns re payroll, inventory etc etc
My comments regarding Xero revenue may very well be presumptuous given that they are made looking at the current release and the IPO document and I am not privy to the development pathway for Xero
My posts are not intended to be negative but constructive
Hope that clarifies my thoughts for everyone - suffice it to stay I’ll continue to be constructively critical but very much look forward to getting a glimpse at the future of what Xero has planned.
