What’s coming for Xero…

A browse of the Xero website this afternoon shows a list of some features due to be released in the coming months. Stuff to look out for includes;

  • Job costing
  • Multi-currency
  • Quoting
  • Statements

The full comparison chart is here.
Of course it’s a very Xero-centric chart, it doesn’t show the stuff that the competition does and Xero does not. Some features that I’d like to see included ASAP include;

  • Native payroll (ie the same look and feel as Xero)
  • Inventory
  • Automatic payments from Xero
  • A wizard to set up Xero automagically

With these things in place, Xero would do all that the others do, with the added benefits that SaaS brings.

Censorship alive and kicking….

Print media is so out of touch with reality…

News this morning that Fairfax media hired casual staff in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to remove pages 5 and 6, 45 and 46 from about 200,000 copies of the Sunday Star Times liftout last week after it was discovered that… shock horror… a link was printed to a website run by porn queen Suzanne Portnoy. This raises two interesting, and somewhat dichotomous, points;

  • It’s available to anyone with an internet connection, a browser and a search engine - censorship is futile
  • If it’s that outside the tastes and interests of your readership, why print it at all - isn’t it merely low brow titillation otherwise?

Fairfax lost out both ways - first by scraping the barrel and printing the dribble and then by a last ditch attempt to censor it

Some more information about collaboration solutions…

Subsequent to my discussions with Jason from GroupSwim yesterday, he sent me a couple of interesting papers.

The first is a case study showing what the GroupSwim product has done for a customer with a distributed employee base. It shows some good, simple wins from moving to a well created collaborative environment. Read it here.

The second is a whitepaper that looks at enterprise community collaboration in general. It’s obviously GroupSwim-centric but goes some way to explain the presentation that I posted yesterday. Check it out here.

GroupSwim update…

Further to my post this morning about exciting up and coming community collaboration facilitation software GroupSwim, here is a slideshow detailing the basics of their offering.

Enjoy!
