This just in - I got a newsletter from Xero saying that they’re currently testing their Australian version and will be releasing soon. Another step in the global domination plan.
It’s going to be real interesting to see Saasu and Xero go head to head.
I posted earlier today that Xero didn’t work on Google’s new browser Chrome.
Great to read that Xero have checked and corrected this anomaly. So here it is - (BTW Xero you weren’t the first - Just checked and my login to Saasu went fine as well)
So Google released it’s new browser today…. I’m sitting only a few miles away from the ‘plex so it seemed somehow appropriate to comment on the launch. My thoughts….
Who cares?
Honestly I can say that the browser, much like the operating system, is meaningless for me. Sure I like Apple’s but that’s more a hardware and usability issue than OS. Similarly I installed Chrome and launched it um - yeah whatever - my websites still look the same.
For a more in depth analysis link here - as usual Bob sums it up best.
I couldn’t resist taking this screenshot though - especially since there have been some comments from Xero evangelists about how lame MYOB’s on-demand product is only supporting Internet Explorer - this is what I got when I tried to log into Xero this morning…
The biggest benefit of SaaS, as I see it, isn’t the fact that it’s available online and anywhere. Rather it’s the added value that connectivity brings.
A great example of what this can mean in practice comes from the Xero update which came out today. Xero now allows a couple of interesting features;
Click to (Skype) call
Unified Communications (UC) is the way of the future. Imagine being able to click to call, to SMS or to Skype from within your application. Xero has gone half way there with the roll out of click to Skype functionality. Of course it only works when the receiving party has Skype - and it’s be nice to see some functionality for IM or traditional calling - but it’s a step very much in the right direction.
Contact Links
Xero also added the ability to build own custom links to a CRM system directly from within the app. Users can set up Contact Links under their Organisation settings. Xero has also created a link builder that reportedly makes it easy to match contact fields inside Xero to other systems.
It’s good to see some of the network, and networked effects coming through from Xero - still a long way to go but they’re getting there
